Number 16, it's my turn to speak... in front of everybody! Such a scary experience. Never could I imagine myself giving a speech in front of them. But I did today.

Before me was Pauline, and I was extremely nervous. Then, suddenly, I thought of praying and I did. There the prayer goes:

‘Dear Jesus, please give me the strength and courage to speak confidently in front of my class. Please stay with me throughout the speech and guide me through each single word. Ahem.’

Once I step on the spot where I could see everyone, my hands were shivering. At that very moment I felt as if I’m the clown that’s embarrassing herself. The very first glance that I took, it made me more anxious. But the next few times, I began to feel much more relaxed and... , a feeling that I can't explain.

I took grab tightly to my prepared speech and began reading. The teacher only said louder please. Slowly but steadily I raise my voice louder. After awhile, I realize I’m not that nervous. I gain my confidence and stayed calm all the way to the end. Miracle is all i can say.

A sign of relieve, finally the end. I stood there waiting for everyone’s comment. To my surprise, the teacher praised me! She asked if I’m nervous, I only reply by nodding my head with a smile. She smiled back and reassured me that I did a good job for a first timer: ‘I could keep calm and project myself with confidence’ An interesting topic, but lack of eye contact. And she quoted a phrase ‘we can have as many friends as we want, but our little pets only have us and depend on us for their survival’ (she like that phrase a lot)

Indeed, Jesus did stay with me throughout! He helped me to project my voice loud and clear and to remain calm. Without his help, I would not be able to do so well!

So glad that I'm able to keep my posture well, and not freak out. Nevertheless, I’m going to work on eye contact the next time round =)
